AUTUMN
September 1, 1974. Sutton Valence, Kent. Towering cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds filled the sky and heavy showers continued from early morning until late afternoon.
September 21, 1980. Marden, Kent. At 10.30 p.m., a violent thunderstorm in the south, illuminated by sheet lightning and moonlight.
October 19, 1974. Sutton Valence, Kent. A very fine day. Fair-weather cumulus soon appeared and formed into ‘cloud streets’, oriented west to east.
October 22, 1993. Marden, Kent. At 5 p.m., a funnel cloud was visible for two minutes, moving from north to south.
October 31, 1988. Strood, Kent. A very fine day with light or calm winds. Vapour from a power station created a cumulus cloud.
November 7, 1981. Biddenden, Kent. At 1 p.m. a cirrus plume appeared in the north, and soon several dense cirrus streamers reached across the sky from the north to the south horizon through the zenith. They moved slowly towards the south-west and were still visible at sunset.
